The Benefits of Installing a Hidden Security Camera
There are many benefits to installing a hidden security camera. This articles aims to look at both the pros and the cons of installing such a camera, in order to assist the consumer in determining whether or not a hidden security camera is the right purchase for their unique situation.
The most important thing to remember about a hidden security camera is that it is emphatically NOT a deterrent device. Because it is hidden, you do not have the advantage, as you do with an exposed one, of deterring minor, spur-of-the-moment crimes; only of having a better chance of actually catching the perpetrator after the deed is done. An exposed security camera--as opposed to a hidden one--might have provided enough of a deterrent for the minor criminal that the crime might never have been committed.
However, the hidden camera has benefits that the exposed security camera does not. It will not deter a casual criminal, but in the case of a more determined criminal, the fact that it is hidden will make it much harder for the criminal to spot it, or, having spotted it, much harder for him to disconnect it or otherwise put it out of commission.
If the criminal never even spots the camera, he may become careless, making it even easier to track him down once the crime has been discovered. And, of course, most hidden security cameras are used in conjunction with twenty four hour surveillance. No need to wait until the crime is discovered before alerting the police; they can be on their way almost as soon as something suspicious is spotted.
However, because the cost of purchasing, installing, and then monitoring the hidden cameras is so high, this is a system best used only in larger businesses with more valuable stock, or in the private homes of the very wealthy. In this situation, the hidden security camera will probably be your best bet. In a different situation, however, it's probably more expensive than it's worth.
